GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Comedian Lily Tomlin will combine her classic characters such as Ernestine with a discussion of topical issues such as the presidental election when she performs in Greensboro.

The News & Record of Greensboro reported that Tomlin will perform Saturday at Aycock Auditorium. By now, Ernestine has moved on from her job as a telephone operator to work at an insurance company.
     
Tomlin says the evening may even include a few jokes about issues in the Triad. She says that when she visits a town, she tries to find out what's happening. Then, she might have Ernestine call a local official.
     
Tomlin will appear this season on the television series "Desperate Housewives.
