Labor Day dry in the morning, showers later

Updated:

When you step outside this morning, it will be sunny and muggy. "By noon, it will already be hot if you're cooking lunch on the grill. We hit 90 degrees around lunchtime," said Storm Team 8 Meteorologist Leigh Spann. Expect afternoon highs to be in the low to mid 90s with heat index values near 100 degrees.

"As far as rain chances on this Labor Day, we keep the forecast dry through 2pm," said Spann.  In the early afternoon, a few showers develop near the center of the state. Areas like eastern Polk County and Highlands County have the best chance of seeing a shower around 2pm. The storms will push toward I-75 by the mid to late afternoon. "Finally, by 5pm, the storms make it to the beaches. The storms will be strongest with the heaviest rain between I-75 and the coast," said Spann.

The good news for beachgoers is that the tide will be pretty low in the early afternoon, so there will be plenty of sand to enjoy. The tide comes in through the afternoon and early evening.

We will see a similar day tomorrow as we everyone heads back to work and school.
