Phil Sanchez comes to WNCN from WISH-TV, the CBS affiliate in Indianapolis, where he served as an anchor and reporter.

Phil began working in Indianapolis in 2007 and quickly made an impression, winning a regional Emmy and the Associated Press award just a year later.

Growing up in Queens , New York, Phil witnessed first-hand the terror attacks on Sept. 11. He was glued to the television watching coverage of the tragedy, and that tumultuous event inspired him to pursue a career in broadcasting.

Phil graduated from Adelphi University on Long Island with a degree in Sociology.

In 2004, he got his first taste of the television news business, reporting for Long Island News Tonight. A year later, Phil made his way to upstate New York covering Westchester, Rockland and Orange counties.

From there Phil moved down "The Shore," where he worked for News12 New Jersey, a 24-hour cable news operation in the New York City market.

Phil's true passion growing up was baseball, and he spent many summers on different baseball diamonds across New York.

Now he spends his time reporting the news, but he credits his athletic background for his success in broadcasting.

"Television news is a tough business. It takes discipline, hard work and a candid ability to laugh at yourself when you mess up. I will probably be laughing at myself a lot!" Sanchez joked.

Aside from work, he loves spending time with his family and friends, and is looking forward to making North Carolina home.

In his spare time Phil likes to work out, drink coffee and watch as much baseball as possible.
