NC WEATHER: Cooler temps arrive Wednesday, still some rain

Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Temperatures warmed into the 80s Tuesday ahead of a cold front, but cooler temperatures will return the rest of the week.

Tuesday will be the warmest day the rest of the week since the cold front will move through late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning. The high in the Triangle Tuesday was 83 while Fayetteville made it up to 86.  Both temperatures were above the normal high of 83 this time of year.

Overnight will be partly to mostly cloudy with a few isolated showers as a cold front moves across the area.  Patchy fog could also develop early Wednesday morning as temperatures drop into the mid to low 60s.

Behind the cold front, expect partly to mostly cloudy skies Wednesday, much cooler temperatures and the chance for scattered showers.  Highs Wednesday will be in the upper 70s.  The cooler than normal temperatures will continue Thursday with highs near 77 and a few showers possible.

Friday looks to be dry but again, cooler than normal with highs near 76.  The weekend is looking pleasant with only a slim chance for a few showers Saturday and dry by Sunday.  Temperatures will be climbing as well with highs in the upper 70s Saturday and back to near 80 Sunday.

Hurricane Edouard remains more than 1000 east of the North Carolina coast.  It became a Category 3 hurricane for a short time Tuesday in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean.  It will begin weakening and moving away from the United States Wednesday.
