Tracking the chance for gusty storms Tuesday - WNCN: News, Weather

Freezing temps Wednesday morning after Tue night storms

Updated:

Storms Tuesday night also brought much colder temperatures that will lead us to lows near freezing Wednesday morning.

Showers scattered around most of the day Tuesday with the stronger storms coming early in the morning and then again late in the afternoon and evening.  High temperatures Tuesday made it up to 70 in the Triangle and 75 down in Fayetteville, but much colder air arrived with the rain Tuesday night.

Temperatures dropped 10-20 degrees in less than an hour Tuesday night.  Those temperatures won't stop dropping until we are near freezing Wednesday morning.

Skies will clear by midnight and temperatures will plummet. The overnight low is expected to reach freezing.  Therefore a Freeze Warning will be in effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. for most of central North Carolina west of I-95.  A freeze warning means freezing temperatures are likely. These conditions could kill crops and other warm season vegetation.

Behind the unsettled weather, skies will be clear tomorrow but it will be much cooler than normal.  Wednesday's high will only be 56.  Our normal high this time of year is 72.

Thursday will also start in the lower 30s before climbing into the lower 60s in the afternoon.

Skies will become mostly cloudy on Friday and there could be a few showers late Friday into Friday night.  Highs on Friday will be in the mid 60s.

The system that could bring us a shower late Friday, will move east of us on Saturday, so after some early clouds and a possible shower, skies should clear and the high should be closer to normal with highs near 70.

Easter Sunday is looking pleasant, with mostly sunny skies and a high around 70.  For sunrise services, temperatures Sunday morning will start out in the middle to upper 40s.  Sunrise on Sunday is 6:36 a.m.

Easter Monday will be partly sunny with highs staying in the lower 70s.
