Fayetteville's "Bike Man", Moses Mathis, will distribute more than 1,000 bikes to underprivileged kids.

Mathis continued his annual bicycle giveaway Tuesday, a tradition he started 17 years ago.

Mathis says he repairs used bicycles and gives them to children around Christmas time. He says he spends about eight hours a day for 10 months in his workshop to make sure the bikes are ready.

He says he goes through all that work because of the smiles, hugs and the thanks he gets from the children.

Children receiving the bikes received a voucher after applying through their schools or through the Department of Social Services.
