A former middle school teacher in Clayton is facing more sex charges after a 7th victim was identified.
Paul Canally is already behind bars, accused of sex offenses involving children.
The former 7th grade science teacher worked at Archer Lodge Middle School from 2007 to 2009. It was during that time that the latest victim said the offenses occurred. Police said three of the victims were students at the school, but all the incidents happened at Canally's home.
Canally was arrested on Feb. 29 when the first victim came forward with several allegations.
On Wednesday, warrants were served on him at the Johnston County Jail charging him with another felony count of indecent liberties with a child.
He went before a judge on Thursday for some of his charges.
Canally is the second Johnston County teacher to be charged with a sex crime in the past month.
"My husband and I are actually talking about the vetting process in Johnston County, period, we would like to know how this happened, how this could occur in our neighborhood, in our community," said parent Felicia Hughey.
The district said they do a national background check on all employees and they said "Johnston County Schools is aggressive in addressing potential issues of employee misconduct, erring on the side of student safety even when the personnel decisions are not popular."
Police said all the victims were between 13 and 15.
"I mean he acts like a big kid himself, and he's a school teacher, I mean I trusted him, I trusted him to tutor my son as well, I'm upset, really upset," said Canally's neighbor Denise Kearns.
Canally is already facing the following charges:
13 felony counts of third degree sexual exploitation of a minor
14 felony counts of indecent liberties with a child
eight misdemeanor counts of sexual battery
eight felony counts of statutory rape
four felony counts of sex offense with a student
one felony count of soliciting a child by computer
His total bond amount is now set at $2.83 million.
The investigation is still ongoing and authorities continue to investigate whether there may be more victims or additional charges to be filed. Anyone that may have additional information on the investigation is asked to call the Clayton Police Department.
