Johnston Co. wrestling coach indicted

By Nbc17 Staff

A Corinth Holders wrestling coach and teacher has been indicted on one charge of indecent liberties with a student.

James McNamara was indicted Monday. He is accused of taking indecent liberties with a student after an incident was reported in early March. The case now heads to the District Attorney's office before going to Superior Court.

The girl who has made the allegations against McNamara testified that the incident took place after McNamara gave her a ride home from Corinth Holders.

She testified that he asked her to dance and put his hands on her sides. She started chugging vodka to calm her nerves and then they touched each others' private parts.

McNamara has been on paid leave since March 7. He has been a teacher with Johnston County Schools since Aug. 17, 2010.

McNamara's mother Diane said at the request of her son she will not be conducting any on-camera interviews. Over the phone she said, "We expected this. It is going to be a long process."
