Butterball employee convicted of cruelty to animals

By Nbc17 Staff

A worker at a Butterball farm in North Carolina has been found guilty of felonious cruelty to animals Tuesday, according to the Hoke County clerk of court.

Brian Douglas will serve a sentence of 30 days in jail, with six months of probation and 36 months of supervised probation.

He was ordered to pay $550 in fees and fines.

Four other Butterball employees face charges.

The case stems from an undercover investigation by Mercy for Animals, which got video of abuses inside a Butterball facility.

A state official later admitted to tipping off Butterball before the company was raided by local authorities.
