Wake County Schools will add six more buses to transportation routes this week as part of an effort to improve bus service to students in the district.
"The new additions reflect our ongoing commitment to make this situation right for our families as quickly as possible,” Superintendent Tony Tata said. “We will continue taking all steps necessary to fix the problems.”
New buses and stops will go into effect Friday for routes for the following schools: Apex Elementary, Apex Middle, Baucom Elementary, Laurel Park Elementary, Turner Creek Elementary and Salem Elementary.
The system is in the first year of a new choice plan that significantly added to the miles buses are covering, but also reduced the number of buses to cut costs. The result was long, and frustrating, waits for parents and students when traditional calendar schools began last week.
Students affected by these changes received letters while riding the bus home Thursday. Parents may also view the letters online beginning Thursday evening.
Earlier this week the school district added 34 buses after receiving complaints about buses being late.
