Raleigh's planned Union Station transit hub is now fully funded.
This morning, state and local officials signed the paperwork, giving the go ahead for the $60 million dollar train and transportation hub downtown.
The Viaduct Building on West Martin Street will be turned into the new train station, replacing the aging Amtrak station.
"This is going to mean new jobs---more economic development---more revitalization of the core of this region," said Secretary Gene Conti of the NC DOT.
200,000 passengers used the current Amtrak station this past year. Officials say riders far exceeds the current space.
The new transit hub is expected to be complete in 2017.
