By Dane Huffman

A 17-year-old Apex boy has died after a possible drug overdose.

On Oct. 6, Apex Police found Timothy Castaneda unresponsive in a wood area behind Beaver Creek Cinemas in the Beaver Creek Shopping Center.

During the investigation, police obtained a search warrant for the residence of Ryan Laches, 17, of Apex. Laches was charged with two counts of selling a controlled substance (LSD) to Castaneda.

Casteneda, who attended Apex High, died Saturday. According to his Apex Funeral Home obituary, he was born in Denville, N.J., and is survived by his parents, Tito and Karen Castaneda, and brothers Steven and Brian Castaneda.

A funeral mass is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrew The Apostle Catholic Church at 3008 Old Raleigh Road in Apex.

The Wake County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the case.
