DENR report finds no TCE, 1 incidence of PCE in further Wake Forest tests

WAKE FOREST, N.C. -
The North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources said Friday that a second round of soil vapor testing in Wake Forest's Stony Hill Road area did not detect any chlorinated solvents above health risk levels.
The testing did not find any trichloroethylene (TCE), the state said. There was one incidence of tetrachloroethylene, or PCE, that was below health risk levels.
The testing was done Nov. 15-16.
The state said 18 crawl spaces and four sub-slabs were tested.
DENR said in November it had tested 15 additional homes on Keith Road in Wake Forest and found no detections of TCE or PCE.
The issue has been a huge concern in the Wake Forest community because TCE was discovered in the well water of some homes there. The solvent can cause cancer, coma and even death.
