Raleigh teen arrested for intentionally burning infant cousin

RALEIGH, N.C. -
Mercedes Evette Norman, 19, was arrested and charged Monday with felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury.
An arrest warrant for Norman said on Jan. 23, she intentionally put her 3-month-old second cousin in hot bath water resulting in 8 percent body burns to the buttocks and left ankle and thigh.
The child was transported to WakeMed and later moved to the Jaycee Burn Cente at UNC.
Norman is being held at the wake county jail under $100,000 bond. Her first court appearance was tuesday at 9 a.m.
