Two arrested in shooting of Henderson teen

HENDERSON, N.C. -

A 17-year-old died of a gunshot wound in Henderson Thursday, Henderson Police said.

Police responded to gunfire at the intersection of Davis Street and Nicholas Street and found Ja'Quan Seward, of Henderson, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Seward was transported to Maria Parham Medical Center and died later.

Shortly after the shooting, officers arrested Daquan Ortiz, 20, of Henderson, and charged him with voluntary manslaughter for the shooting death of Seward.

Ortiz received no bond pending first appearance.

Officers made a second arrest Friday in connection with the shooting. Corey Cheek Jr., 17, was arrested and charged with intimidating a witness after investigators searched his home near Davis Street.
