DURHAM, N.C. -

The Durham Police Department confirmed that live wires fell on top of a school bus with children inside near Burton Elementary School.

The accident happened around 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Mathison Street and Lakeland Street, which is in front of Burton Elementary.

According to Chip Sudderth, Director of Information for Durham County Schools, bus 126 was turning when it pulled a guide line from the ground, forcing a power pole against the bus.

Children from Burton and Harris Elementary Schools were on board.

The Durham Fire Department said all 17 passengers got off the bus safely and no one is injured.
