CHARLOTTE, N.C. -

The Shaw University Lady Bears won their third straight CIAA Championship Saturday, beating Fayetteville State 72-53 in the title game on Saturday night at Time Warner Cable Arena.

The Lady Bears won despite losing senior Sequoyah Griffin to a torn ACL in the second-to-last game of the regular season.

The Lady Bears were the No. 2 seed from the Southern Division but won coach Jacques Curtis' 10th CIAA title.

"I think this one ranks near the top," Curtis said. "This team has been through a lot. We started out with 17 or 18 players and we have 11 now. One of them just went out with an injury in the second to last game of the season and she was a senior, so that was a big hit right there.  Everybody on this team has had moments where they have come up big for us. This is big for the seniors to go out as champions."

In the final, Crystal Wilson and Crystal Harris scored 18 points apiece. and Taylor Dalrymple added 16 points and eight rebounds and was named the Most Valuable Player for the Tournament.
