Recording captures Trooper Potts' plea after Durham shooting

Posted: Updated:
DURHAM, N.C. -

A newly released audio transmission from the Highway Patrol depicts the desperation from a state trooper after he was shot during a traffic stop in Durham last month.

In the recording Trooper Mike Potts says, "Hurry up, send units, hurry. ... I've been shot in the face."

Authorities say Potts was shot four times by Mikel Brady on Highway 70 on Feb. 18.

Brady was indicted on one charge of assault with a deadly weapon, one charge of assault on a law enforcement officer and one charge of attempted murder.

Brady's pregnant girlfriend, Lyndsey Smith, was also arrested in the case and charged with being an accessory after the fact in connection with the shooting.
