HALIFAX, N.C. -
Human remains found in Halifax County earlier this week
appear to belong to a black female, according to the medical examiner in
Greenville.
The medical examiner says the woman appears to be around 5
feet 1 inch tall to 5 feet 5 inches tall and is between 35 to 50 years old.
A previous incident report said the remains were that of a
white male.
The remains were found at what appeared to be a makeshift
camp under a train trestle. Deputies say a family of hikers discovered the
remains Sunday afternoon along the Chockoyotte Creek near Highway 561.
Officials do not believe foul play was involved.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Halifax
County Sheriff's Office at 252-583-8051 or Halifax County Crime Stoppers at
252-583-4444.
