Man arrested for firing a gun at Parham Medical Center

HENDERSON, N.C. -

A man fired a gun in the bathroom of the emergency room at Maria Parham Medical Center in Henderson Thursday evening.

According to the Henderson Police Department, officers were conducting security of a mental patient around 6 p.m. at the medical center. The officers heard a gunshot come from the restroom in the emergency room.

Police arrested Jan-Michael Vincent Lassiter, 29, of Henderson without incident for discharging a firearm into an occupied building.

Lassiter was visiting a patient in the emergency room.

Police charged Lassiter with carrying a concealed weapon, discharging a firearm into occupied property, going armed to the terror of the public, injury to personal property, disorderly conduct, discharging a firearm in the city limits and concealing a handgun after consuming alcohol.

Lassiter was placed in the Vance County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Vance County District Court on April 9, 2013. 

No injuries were reported.
