Hope Mills mother charged with DUI and child endangerment

Posted: Updated:

Cumberland County Sheriff's Deputies have arrested a Hope Mills mother after she made a false police report and drove while under the influence with her children in the car.

Karra Shanae Jones, 23, of Hope Mills, reported that her 5-year-old daughter was taken from her car while she was inside a local convenience store.  A second child was found inside the vehicle unharmed.

Deputies responded quickly to a Kangaroo gas station at the corner of Camden and Natal roads just before 8:30 a.m. Thursday. Deputies and a K9 team began searching the area for the child.

The child was found at a local day care where her mother had dropped her off earlier.

Jones has been charged with child endangerment, DUI and misuse of the 911 communications system.  She will be processed into the Cumberland County Detention Center.
