The route wound through Cary and Wake County using 20 miles of the American Tobacco Trail.

$8,500 in prize money was at stake as well as a birth in the Boston Marathon.

Allscripts sponsored this year's marathon. Bay Six sponsored the accompanying half marathon.

Money raised from entry fees is going to charities including the Wounded Warrior Project, the American Red Cross, and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
