
George R. Greene, the first African-American elected to the Wake County District Court in 1974, has died.
The funeral for Greene, who was later a Superior Court judge, will Friday at noon at First Baptist Church at 101 South Wilmington Street in Raleigh.
The visitation with the family will be Friday at 11 a.m. at the church.
Lea Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Greene was a noted civil rights lawyer, representing Shaw and St. Augustine's students in lunch counter sit-ins, before moving to the bench.
He was born in 1930.
