Raleigh has been named as the fastest–growing city in the United States by Forbes Magazine.
The magazine looked at Census population figures for 2000 to 2012 for the 52 metropolitan statistical areas in the U.S. that exceed 1 million residents.
Raleigh was rated No. 1 with 47.8 percent population growth since 2000. The current population in Raleigh is 1,188,564.
Other cities rounding out the top five were Austin, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada; Orlando, Florida and Charlotte, N.C. Charlotte had a 32.8 percent since 2000.
