A group of Raleigh residents are upset about newly installed speed bumps.
"I wasn't aware these speed humps were going to be installed until work started and it's been very frustrating for us," said John Hamilton.
Three speed bumps were installed in January near school zones along Northbrook Drive near Brooks Elementary School.
Some residents say the bumps are making a once safe road dangerous.
"With one of my cars, one of the wheels are on and the others are off, so you have a tendency to bottom out," said resident Ed Sinnema.
"I have a car I can't even cross this first speed hump here because it's too high. It would high center. So I'm isolated. I have to go all around the neighborhood streets," said resident Neal Harrington, who protested the bumps Tuesday during a public hearing with the City Council.
Some residents argue the speed bumps are illegal because city data shows traffic on Northbrook Drive exceeds 4,000 vehicles daily.
City policies say if a road's traffic count exceeds the 4,000 limit, the road does not qualify for speed bumps.
Tom Fiorello manages the Traffic Calming Projects, which installs the speed bumps for the city. He responded to the residents' concerns Tuesday by saying 75 percent of residents along Northbrook Drive agreed to have the speed bumps installed.
Fiorello said the installation of the bumps was approved by the Council and there are no plans to remove them.
