Fayetteville Police identify 'person of interest' in mall rape

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department have talked with a "person of interest" in connection with a rape Monday at Cross Creek Mall.

A 16-year-old told Fayetteville Police the sexual assault occurred at the mall Monday at approximately 7:30 p.m. Detectives visited a hospital in a neighboring county, where the girl told them she was shopping with her family when the rapist pulled her into a bathroom and assaulted her.
