A culvert fire under a section of Cary Parkway Thursday will keep at least the westbound side of the road closed for three weeks.
A fire caused damage to a 12-by-8 foot culvert that will require 100 feet of pipe to be replaced. The repairs will include tearing up the pavement, replacing the damaged pipe and repaving.
The cost of the repair is approximately $400,000.
Cary police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The westbound lanes will remain closed with the entire road being shut down at times once construction begins.
Westbound traffic is currently being diverted to Tryon Road then right onto Lake Pines Drive.
Amtrak services are delayed in Morrisville due to a freight trail derailment, authorities said.
