DOT to start issuing driver's licenses to some undocumented immigrants

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Starting Monday, immigrants in North Carolina who qualify under Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) can get a driver's license. It's for immigrants who were brought here by their parents as children and now want to work or study in the state.

The original plan was to have a pink stripe on the license along with the words "no lawful status".

Some people said they thought the stripe would cause discrimination against cardholders.

Last week- the North Carolina Department of Transportation decided to remove the pink stripe to make sure they would meet today's deadline under cost.

The license will still read "no lawful status."
