Fairmont HS student shot to death at park

FAIRMONT, N.C. -

Authorities in Fairmont are investigating a shooting at Calvin Haggan Park that left a 16-year-old dead. 

The shooting took place on the basketball court where the victim, DaQuan Stephens, was shooting hoops. 

According to witnesses, two male suspects in a vehicle driven by a female drove up and go out to talk to Stephens. Witnesses told authorities that a short conversation occurred before multiple shots were fired.

Stephens was taken Southeastern Health in Lumberton where he was pronounced dead. 

No suspects have been arrested in the case. 

Stephens was a student at Fairmont High School. 

Authorities believe the shooting was an isolated incident between the suspects and the victim.
