Crews began demolishing a former AMF bowling alley on Capital Boulevard Monday morning as part of a larger project to build up one of Raleigh's busiest areas.
The city will restore the flood plain, improve water quality and create a new greenway between Wake Forest Road and Crabtree Blvd. The City of Raleigh and some neighbors hope Capital Boulevard will soon live up to its name as a gateway to the capital city.
The city bought the old AMF lanes in the 1800 block of Capital Boulevard in 2011 for about $1.1 million.
Work on the area will continue for the next decade.
