Wake County gave the go-ahead to pay MetLife more than a $1 million to open a Cary campus.
The Board of Commissioners approved the incentives package Monday afternoon. MetLife won't receive a dime until it puts at least $50 million into a Cary location, which could happen in 2016.
The company is expected to bring more than 1,000 jobs to the area.
"These 1,200 individuals that will come here to Wake County are going to make a significant impact on their involvements in our communities," Chairman Joe Bryan said.
MetLife announced last month it would move 2,600 jobs from offices in four Northeast states and California to lower-cost locations in Cary and Charlotte. Its Cary location will serve as the company's global technology and operations hub.
