N.C. State has hired Wes Moore as women's basketball head coach, Director of Athletics Debbie Yow said Friday.
Moore has been a collegiate head coach for 24 seasons, and spent the last 15 as the head coach at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He has a record of 558-169 overall and has taken 16 teams to the NCAA Tournament.
In 2010, Moore agreed to be the head coach at East Carolina, and even had a news conference to discuss his new team. But he backed out after that and remained at Chattanooga.
Moore is the only coach to ever advance teams to the NCAA Tournament at the Division I, II and III level. His record also includes the Southern Conference Coach of the Year, an award he has won on six separate occasions.
Kellie Harper was fired after four years at N.C. State on March 26 after a 53-47 record.
From 1993-1995, Moore served as the women's basketball assistant coach under Yow and at the time the team reached the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament in 1995.
An introductory press conference will be held this Monday.
