CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The University of North Carolina announced Friday P.J. Hairston will return to play basketball at North Carolina for his junior year.

In a released from the University, Hairston said, "I have spent a lot of time with my family over the past couple of days discussing school and my future, and I have finally decided today to return to the University of North Carolina for my junior year."

The Greensboro native averaged 23 minutes and 14.6 points per game during his sophomore season. Tar Heel head coach Roy Williams inserted Hairston into the starting lineup for Desmond Hubert during their first match up with Duke Feb. 13.

Carolina won nine of their last 13 games with Hairston in the starting lineup.

In March, Hairston was named to the All-ACC Tournament first team for averaging 20.6 points with 3.6 rebounds during three games in Greensboro.
