Camp Lejeune Marine, girlfriend charged with killing marine's wife

Posted: Updated:
MONTGOMERY, AL -

Police in Montgomery, Alabama have charged a Camp Lejeune Marine in the shooting death of his wife.

WECT reports Marquis Cheatham, 23, was home on a three-day pass to see his family when he was arrested and charged with shooting and killing Ashley Cheatham, 20.

Cheatham's girlfriend, 20-year-old Dominique Atkinson of North Carolina, has also been charged with murder in the case.

Cheatham was taken into custody on Wednesday by the U.S. Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune. He is currently being held without bond and is awaiting extradition to the Montgomery County Detention Facility. Atkinson is being held by authorities in N.C. while awaiting extradition back to Alabama.

Montgomery police think Cheatham's death stemmed from an ongoing argument between the couple.
