Marine flips truck, hits power pole in Onslow County

Posted: Updated:
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -

Troopers say a Marine had been drinking before he flipped his truck in Onslow County early Thursday morning.

Trooper R.W. West says he was called to the intersection of Old 30 and Rocky Run Road in Jacksonville around 2:30 a.m.

27-year-old Justin Gibson was asleep inside his overturned truck when firefighters arrived.

Troopers say Gibson ran a stop sign on Rocky Run Rd in his Ford F-150. He then crossed 30, hit a ditch, overturned and hit a power pole.

Gibson was taken to the Naval Hospital with minor injuries.

Crews from Jones-Onslow Electric Membership Corporation were also dispatched to the scene around 2:45 a.m. We're told they had to cut power to the Piney Green area while they replaced the split pole.

A JOEMC employee tells us customers started calling in to report no power around 5:30 a.m. and all power was restored by 6:35 a.m.

Troopers say alcohol was a factor in this crash. Charges are pending.
