SANFORD, N.C. -

A Sanford parent is under investigation for trying to sell her daughter on eBay.

Sanford Police say a parent posted "a picture of a minor child for sale on the Internet."

The investigation comes after someone listed a 2-year-old for sale in the "Dogs & puppies" section of eBay Classifieds.

An eBay spokesperson said that they have been made aware of the listing and are currently working with local police on the case.

eBay could not comment on specifics within the investigation but were able to release the following statement:"eBay Classifieds is aware of the illegal ad that was placed on our Raleigh site in the pets category regarding a 2-year old girl. Once flagged, the ad was immediately removed and we are currently working with law enforcement to provide them with all the information we can to aid in their investigation."

The listing, which was pulled by eBay for violating its terms of use, describes the toddler as a "Cute lil [sic] Mexican girl."

"Comes with her own SSN [Social Security Number] and with a month supply of food," the listing continued.

The listing indicates that the parent is "willing to rent her aswell [sic]."
