Fiscal watchdogs, Forest to talk NC tax overhaul

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

North Carolina's lieutenant governor is joining with a conservative-leaning fiscal watchdog group to put in their 2 cents worth about what an overhaul of the state's tax system should look like.

Americans for Prosperity says Republican Lt. Gov. Dan Forest was slated to join national group President Tim Phillips and state director Dallas Woodhouse on Tuesday in front of the Legislative Building. Americans for Prosperity says its leaders will endorse a new tax code that is fair and simple and taxes people less.

Senate and House leaders and Gov. Pat McCrory have said they would like to see a tax overhaul passed this year. Some legislators want to see a plan to reduce drastically income taxes. Others want a tempered approach.
