Argument leads to fatal shooting between brothers

KINSTON, N.C. -

A man is dead after police say his brother shot him following an argument between the two.

Deputies of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of shots fired on New Hope Road in LaGrange, North Carolina. Deputies arrived at the scene within minutes and found 28-year-old Richard Sylvester Thomas of Kinston deceased in the yard.

According to a witness the vehicle stopped at the driver's residence where the argument continued, and 34-year-old Benjamin Adonis Thomas shot his brother. The victim then got out of the car, walked a few steps and collapsed. The Benjamin Thomas left walking toward Lenoir County, while the witness contacted authorities.

Shortly after the Wayne County Sheriff's Office was contacted by the Lenoir County Deputies who had Benjamin Thomas in custody. He was transported back to the scene and turned over to Wayne County. The weapon was later recovered on the side of a ditch on Old Jason Road, in Wayne County.

Benjamin Thomas is charged with one count of murder and is being held in the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond.
