Five arson fires in Pitt County have been linked to 19 year old Abraham Daoud Rizek of Greenville.
Deputies believe Rizek started the five abandoned house fires between March and April of this year.

During a press conference Thursday morning, Sheriff Neil Elks said the fires totaled more than an estimated $120,000 worth of damage.

Deputies were approached by officials at the Red Oak Fire Department about their suspicions of Rizek.
They say Rizek was already in an extended probationary period.

"It's very baffling.  We pride ourselves on honor and dignity and trying to represent our tax payers very well.  We preach that within our organization and to see this occur is very outside the lines and it's hard to explain," said Lt. Brandon Smith, Red Oak Volunteer Fire Department.

Rizek was taken to the Pitt County Detention Center under a $50,000 bond.
