Raleigh police question robbery report

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Raleigh police said Sunday they're investigating whether an N.C. State student was robbed Saturday night near campus.

Campus police initially reported a robbery happened at 9:30 p.m. in the Coliseum Parking Deck. They updated the warning Sunday to say the robbery happened off campus and Raleigh police were taking over the investigation.

Late Sunday afternoon Raleigh police said they're investigating whether a robbery happened at either location.

The student had said a man with a knife demanded money and ran away towards Hillsborough Street.

After that report N.C. State police offered students these safety tips:

  • Walk in well lighted areas
  • Walk in groups whenever possible, especially at night
  • Avoid distractions such as headphones or texting while walking
  • Consider utilizing public transportation or the Safety Escort
  • Report any suspicious activity or crime on campus to Police immediately by calling 919-515-3000
