FORT BRAGG, N.C. -

Fort Bragg officials are investigating the death of a paratrooper after he was found unresponsive in his barracks Saturday night.

Spc. David M. Gannon, 34, of West Jordan, Utah, was a grenadier in Company C, 2nd Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team at Fort Bragg.

"Spc. Gannon was an exceptional Paratrooper and an integral member of our team," said Lt. Col. Praxitelis N. Vamvakias, Gannon's battalion commander.  "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends; we will never forget him"

Gannon joined the Army in February 2011, attended Basic Combat Training and U.S. Army Airborne School at Fort Benning, Ga., and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division in July 2011.

Gannon deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2012 to August 2012.
