A Durham man has been arrested after leading authorities in
a tri-county police chase through Sampson, Johnston and Wake counties.
Sampson County 911 center received a call about a burglary
in process at Quality Farm Equipment on Pugh Road in Clinton.
The suspect left the scene and a citizen began following the
suspect until a Clinton Police officer was able to intercept. The officer tried
to stop the suspect, but he refused to stop.
The Clinton Police Department stopped pursuing the suspect
and then Sampson County Sheriff's Office took over. Newton Grove police officers and Johnston County
and Wake County Sheriff's deputies also joined the pursuit as the suspect made
his way through Johnston and Wake counties.
Authorities were eventually able to catch the suspect, Barry
Helms of Durham, in Wake County.
Helms has been charged with one count of burglary and forcible
entry, one count of resisting arrest and two counts of aggravated assault of an
