Fallen Wake County law officers to be honored

Posted: Updated:
RALEIGH, N.C. -

Wake County law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty are being honored one day after the nation took a moment for a similar ceremony.

The Wake County Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday inside the Duke Energy Center Performing Arts in Fletcher Theater.

Among the speakers is Raleigh Police Chief Cassandra Deck-Brown. She is the first African-American woman to lead the department, and the first chief chosen from within the department since 1994, when her brother in-law, Mitchell Brown, was promoted to chief.

The ceremonies will also include a 21-gun salute.
