Duke's Krzyzewski made $9.7 million in 2011

Posted: Updated:

Duke University basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski made almost $9.7 million in the 2011 calendar year, according to documents the school furnished Thursday evening.

Krzyzewski's salary was well above the $1.18 million reported to chancellor Richard Brodhead. Victor Dzau, Duke's Chancellor for Health Affairs, made $2.8 million, according to the documents.

The federal Form 990 details Duke University's spending and its highest-paid employees and gives a detailed snapshot at how the private school functions.

The form lists Krzyzewski's base compensation as $1.978 million, with $5.642 million in bonus and incentives and $59,616 in "other reportable compensation." Krzyzewski also received $1.982 million in "retirement and other deferred compensation."

Krzyzewski made significantly more than University of North Carolina coach Roy Williams, for example. In October of 2011, UNC announced Williams had agreed to an extension through 2018 that would pay him a base salary of $334,000 plus supplemental income between $1.35 million and $1.65 million. He could also receive bonuses in addition to that.

In other Duke numbers, Neal Triplett, President and CEO of Duke Management Co., made $2.5 million.

Duke football coach David Cutcliffe made $1.8 million and director of athletics Kevin White made $936,000. UNC hired Bubba Cunningham as athletics director in 2011 at a base salary of $525,000.
