Inmate faces more time after brief prison escape

Posted: Updated:

A North Carolina inmate due for release in five months is facing additional prison time after a brief escape from a minimum-security lockup.
The state Department of Public Safety says 22-year-old Jacob Hilton was reported missing after an inmate count Saturday afternoon at Gaston Correctional Center in Dallas.
Agency spokesman Keith Acree says Hilton was captured nearly four hours later walking along a highway about four miles from the prison.
Hilton was serving three-and-a-half years for possession of a firearm by a felon and numerous counts of breaking and entering and larceny. He was scheduled for release in October.
Acree says Hilton will be charged with a felony for the escape.
