Game Changer: USF President Dr. Judy Genshaft

Posted: Updated:
TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The University of South Florida is now being credited with starting a revolution in health care.

"We are one of the most five most watched universities in the country," said University of South Florida president Dr. Judy Genshaft.

Many, including Frank Brogan, the chancellor of the state university system, credit Genshaft with taking USF to an entirely new level.

Genshaft has made it her mission for more than a decade now to transform USF into an elite research university and she has more than made the grade. USF now ranks in the top 50 established universities like Michigan State, Cornell, and the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Genshaft believes marrying research to business is key to economic growth and luring big business to the Tampa Bay region.

"We have $411 million in research at the University of South Florida, we have more research than Purdue, NC State and even Sunnybrook," Genshaft said.

Dr. Genshaft has also dedicated a lot of time to building USF's S.T.E.M. Degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

"But I've added an extra 'm' that stands for medicine", Genshaft said. "Now we have physical therapy and pharmacy and we are in the top 25 schools of nursing in the country."
