RALEIGH, N.C. -

A 16-year-old arrested connection with the murder of Maria Isabel Saravia and Jose Samuel Mendoza Flores will be tried as an adult.

Isrrael Vasquez, 16, has his next court date scheduled for the morning of May 29, according to court documents.  His case had previously been in juvenile court.

Deputies say the couple was murdered Jan. 5 at 708 Colonial Drive, which is near Garner.

The Wake County Sheriff's Office arrested Vasquez, of 165 Montiseno Dr, Raleigh, and his 15-year-old nephew.

Both were charged with two counts of murder, felony conspiracy, first-degree burglary, possession of stolen property and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Vasquez is being held with no bond.

According to warrants, Vasquez used a .45mm Caliber Pistol, with an obliterated serial number, and a 7.62mm military-type rifle which is believed to have been stolen.

Warrants also show authorities believe a high-ranking gang member used to the live at the residence, and may have been the intended target.

The suspects are also suspected gang members--and warrants show a gang dispute likely led to the crime.
