RALEIGH, N.C. -

The Helping Hand Mission in Raleigh is packing up supplies to send to Oklahoma tornado victims.

Helping Hand Mission volunteer coordinator Willie Thorpe says the news of the damage in Oklahoma "shook their souls." He says executive director Sylvia Wiggins immediately put a task force together to gather supplies for the victims.

"Wherever we see a disaster, it doesn't have to be in our neck of the woods. We still call them home and we are still reaching out to let them know that we care and we will lend a helping hand wherever we are needed." Thorpe said.

The Mission is in need of clothes, toiletry items, shovels, gloves, trash bags, bottled water, nonperishable items and laundry supplies.

This is not the first time the mission has lent a helping hand. Thorpe says they have traveled to both Florida and Louisiana to help disaster victims.

"We're from Raleigh and we care about those no matter what city, what state you are in, what country you are in. Helping Hand Mission just cares," Thorpe said.

Donations can be made at various locations across the Triangle including at the following locations:

  • 339 South Wilmington St. in Raleigh
  • 501 New Bern Ave. in Raleigh
  • 414 Old Apex Rd. in Cary
  • 16 South Pine St. in Wendell
  • 623 Rock Quarry Rd. in Raleigh.

Thorpe says they hope to leave for Oklahoma in a couple of days.
