WILSON, N.C. -

Authorities in Wilson have arrested a husband and wife suspected of being involved in a fatal hit-and-run accident on Friday morning.

Troy Demonte Gunter and Nicole Owens Gunter were arrested Sunday night. Troy Gunter, the driver of the vehicle that struck and killed 58-year-old Hugh Bolden Johnston IV Friday morning, is facing charges of involuntary manslaughter, felony hit and run involving serious injury or death and driving while license revoked. He was jailed under a $30,000 bond.

Passenger Nicole Gunter has been charged with hit-and-run, aiding and abetting and aiding and abetting driving while license revoked. She was jailed under a $10,000 bond.

Authorities say Johnston was riding home a moped on N.C. Highway 42 when he was apparently hit from behind.

A motorist called 911 after finding a motorcycle helmet in the road. The caller reported finding a wrecked moped and pieces of a car along N.C. Highway 42.

The State Highway Patrol said troopers found the grill of a car that appears to be a silver Chrysler 300 or 300M sedan.

Emergency personnel found Johnston alive on the side of the road. He was transported to the hospital where he died.

Troopers said Johnston was wearing all black, which could have contributed in part to the collision.
