RALEIGH, N.C. -

If North Carolina State was still feeling the effects of being snubbed by the NCAA baseball selection committee, it was hard to tell Thursday at practice.

"It was something we were really excited about to start off with -- just the idea of being a national seed," Wolfpack centerfielder Brett Williams. "Of course you're going to get excited and everyone wants that opportunity.

But just as soon as we found out we weren't, that's exactly when we had to move on."

It's probably good the Wolfpack is going into the Regionals with a clear head, because if history holds true, there could be some land mines to navigate this weekend at home. Last year, the Tar Heels were bounced from its tournament while playing on their home field.

"As much as we want to play Oregon, they might not make it out of their Regional," ACC 1st Team shortstop Trea Turner said. "So we have to definitely take it one game at a time -- focus on tomorrow and get the first ‘W' and move on from there."

State Head Coach Elliott Avent likes his team's chances and says he doesn't sense his players are feeling the pressure of defending home field.

"I think they're pretty loose," Avent said. "I'm not sure they know what the word [pressure] means.

"Maybe I'd like for them to feel a little more, because when you feel a certain fear you might focus a little better. But they're pretty loose and ready to play, and I think what they've done all year has gotten them ready for this moment."

And the Pack is eager to prove they are indeed one of the top eight teams.
